making fun of himself. at a campaign event last night. out there again tonight. romney today talking about the debate. as new polls are showing a big bounce after debate. pew research center has a new poll out tonight among likely voters. look at this bounce. this change. from september 12 to 16, he was down 8. now up 4 among likely voters. this is pew. that is looking at again, about 1100 likely societ voters. look at another poll, political poll for choice of president. one point, president obama over romney. this was october 1-4. it does not really get a full sense of october 3 debate. you have gallup. post debate. there you see the before and after. tied. again, that is registered voters not likely voters. gallup hasn't changed that. one more back to politico voter look. this is likely voters. you see the split among supporters. some of that poll is before the debate. so we're already starting to see some of the effect of what both sides are calling a strong debate performance by romney. bring in the panel about the state of the race. hayes for "weekly standard." a.b. stoddard, f

it helped some, but the person who helped governor romney most was governor romney. on wednesday night, he was before almost 70 million people, a lot of them undecided voters trying to make up their mind. he made a very clear case that, you know, he is someone who can connect. i thought the thing that was most shocking to me was the fact that the governor -- you know, the president has said to be better liked, more likable, better able to connect with voters, and it seemed to me as though the governor did a better job at doing those things on wednesday night than the president. so i think he helped himself tremendously. >> i want you to take a look at this poll with me. this is a quinnipiac poll. there it is. there you go. likely voters, who cares about the needs and problems of the people like you was the question. obama 60%. romney 46%. what do you make of those numbers? >> i think we'll have to see how those numbers change over the course of the next few weeks i don't know that those numbers actually reflect what voters got to see. the president has been the president for four years. by

debate between barak obama and mitt romney is tomorrow night and the campaigns are doing whatever they can to get ready. actually i heard that the obama campaign is a little worried 'cause during his flight to nevada on sunday, the president apparently watched four hours of football instead of studying. : it's interesting because the president wants everybody to believe that mitt romney is so smooth and so great, we've seen there he's had gaffes, and the president has had gaffes, and we don't know which version of the candidates will show up on wednesday night, but the last thing i want to ask you about is as we watch together, because we went to those debates together and talked about them after every one, romney improved. he definitely improved by the end. we went through more than 20 of them. and by that critical debate he had in, i think it was florida, where he needed to take out gingrich, he got much more aggressive, and he succeeded in helping redefine the republican primary. here's a sample of romney at what many thereafter said was his best performance. >> mr. speaker, i'm not anti-immigrant. my father was born in mexico. my wife's father was born in wales. they came to this country. the idea that i'm anti-immigrant is repulsive. don't use a term like that. megyn: is that the guy we're likely to see show up this week? because that, of course, was with the great debate co
